Its crazy how much I have learnt about blogging and the community that goes with it over the past year and a half that I have been working on Opshopaholic. Starting a blog is really exciting and a little bit scary! But I have really enjoyed developing this blog and its content, I appreciate all the people who I have got to know along the way. There are a few people who have been particularly supportive – you know who you are! And I just want to thank them especially.

However over the past few months the inspiration just hasn’t been there, I thought it might have been a phase. I came up with plans of cutting back on blogging to cut down the pressure – for nearly a year I was blogging at least 5 times a week, which was a huge commitment, but now I just don’t have the energy or desire to blog about fashion/style. Its still something I am hugely interested in, and I am still passionate about opshopping, just not blogging about it.

Instead I have decided to start a new blog - BEEF. This blog will focus on my design work as well as my painting and photography so it may not be to all of your tastes. I a really excited about this blog, I am looking forward to documenting my work and seeing how it progresses. I am heading to university next year to study Visual Communication and it makes sense to get my name out there as a designer. Hopefully I will be able to stick at this blog, no doubt I will have enough content as I am continuously working my art and its something I have been passionate about since a very young age. When I was six years old we did a class project, painting pictures of what we wanted to be when we grew up, I wanted to be an artist and over ten years later that hasn’t changed! Not once have I ever considered doing something else.

I really appreciate all your support, and I am not deleting this blog as I am not 100% sure I wont come back to it, but for now you can see me over at my new blog BEEF . (It’s a weird name but we have a joke in my photography class if you take a good photo it’s referred to as prime beef.)

I found these lost files on my laptop yesterday and thought they would make a nice blog post. I can’t even remember taking these? But the dreamy evening light makes me think it was sometime in mid autumn? Now days its dark by 5.00pm. All of these were just casually taken in my room, nothing special but I do like how they turned out. One of my favorite things in photography is seeing how mundane house hold objects can be made in to some much more beautiful and artistic through camera angle, composition and lighting. It probably sounds really lame but I think that’s really interesting to try and capture.

Hope you’re all enjoying the weekend and if you enjoyed this post then feel free check out my intsagram (here) for lots more.

Todays post is slightly different to usual, instead of talking about opshopping or style I thought I would mix it up and do a post on music. With in the past year or so I have started to develop more of an interest in music. With in that same time frame a lot of New Zealand musicians have come out that I really love so I wanted to share them with you as I can pretty much guarantee you wouldn’t have herd of them. I could have done a  post about the international artists I enjoy but chances are by the time we hear them over here in NZ the rest of the world has been there and done that. Hopefully this will be more interesting.

Literally with in the past few months Lorde has come on to the NZ music scene. I will be honest I don’t really know much about her but that is largely because she only recently entered the NZ music charts. Lorde is still in school and only 16 years old, but when you hear her music its hard to believe. She has a very mature voice and distinct sound.

At the moment my favorite songs by Lorde are Royals, Love club and Bravado. All three have themes regarding consumerism, popularity and materialism – which sounds boring as hell but it’s actually really nice to hear songs that aren’t about love/relationships/partying.

Because Lorde is such a new artist it will be really interesting to see what she does next. I’m hoping she’s not a one hit wonder – but I highly doubt that. The thing that everyone comments on is how smart she is in the way she goes about her music. You can see she is really passionate and in it for the long haul. For example in her recently released music video for royals, what she ended up creating is really artistic and beautiful but there is definitely another direction she could have taken it that would have been much more obvious and more what people were expecting. I like how she has stayed true to the song and probably the image she is trying to create (I am assume she is trying to create.. I could just be reading way to much in to it all?)

If you guys enjoyed this post let me know because I have a few more kiwi bands up my sleeve to share with you.

MAY HAUL - Levis, GAP and lots of skirts

It seems like ages since my last haul, but I have to admit that doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing my fair share of spending… One of the main issues I have been facing is the lack of light, it makes taking nice blog photos extremely difficult thanks to the no so pleasant winter weather .. Anyway here are the pieces I picked up during may, everything here is thrifted for opshops:

We don’t have Topshop stores here in New Zealand like you do in the UK, the Topshop brand is sold alongside Karen Walker over here ( A top NZ fashion designer) so finding this jacket in a opshop is extremely uncommon. I am unsure if I will keep it though? As much as I like it, I think it’s probably a size too small – I can get away with it but in terms of comfort it’s not the best? But for $6.00/£3.00 I could hardly leave it behind!

I am in love with everything to do with this skirt. I am such a sucker for floral prints on black – I really like how it cancels out that girly girl look a floral piece brings to an outfit. The purple and black also tie in well with winter colour pallets so no doubt I will get a lot of wear out of this over the coming months.

This skirt is such a crazy obnoxious statement piece, and it will probably make you question my level of taste . I love the fabric, and I had seen this skirt a couple of weeks ago in the same shop but decided against getting it but when I saw it again a couple of weekends ago I couldn’t resist. It’s the complete opposite of what I usually wear but the print was too amazing to pass up. And I can see it working in an outfit, but first I want to take up the hem  – at the moment it’s a little too much of a good thing!

This is possibly the wholly grail find in terms of opshopping? A pristine condition vintage Levis denim jacket for $8.00/ £4.00. I couldn’t believe it when I saw this. I won’t go in to too much detail because I will be dedicating a whole post to this jacket that you will be seeing in the near future.

This is a pretty simple piece but I am really in to my oversized t-shirts and this vintage GAP one combines two of my favorite things: white t-shirts and grey t-shirts. You cant really tell in this photo but this tee is made of a ‘white marl grey’ material – yes I know that doesn’t really make sense but hopefully you kinda get what I mean?
And because this haul didn’t already have enough skirts heres another one… In case you cant tell they are my go to item in a wardeobe  and are practically all I ever wear. This is another one to be hemmed, I know it was/is in fahion but I just donet like midi skirts I find them really unflattering? I am all for maxi or mini but midi skirts just don't do it for me.
What I really like is the pattern of this skirt, it looks like someone has painted the flowers on. The photo dosent show this very well but I just though that it was really interesting and as a painter myself I can really appreciate it.

Hope you're all well, I would love to know what you thought of my purchases so feel free to leave a comment.
