I thought I would do a little update on the jewellery front. I haven't really bought much more, just a necklace and bracelet. In fact, I didn’t even buy the bracelet; it was given to me by my dear old mum.
This necklace was something I picked up a while ago. It’s just a really simple glass bead necklace. It was $2.00 from the Salvation Army Newtown. What I like about this are the hind of strange blackish green beads, which sounds awful, but are actually quite pretty when they catch the light. I also think it’s nice that the chain used for this necklace isn’t your typical gold or silver but more of a copper colour, which contrasts with the beads. The fact that this style of necklace is simple it means that I will be able to wear it with practically anything, and I am also considering layering up some other necklaces with it.
I am in love with this bracelet. I remember years ago when I was about ten, and my mum and I were walking down to the shops when she picked this up off the side of the road. I can never remember her actually wearing it though? It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when I found it again and remembered all of this. It finally fits me now so I have started wearing it. I am no jeweller but I think this is rose gold, which I personally much prefer to the normal sort that looks quite yellowish.
It’s not very glamorous to be picking jewellery up off the side of the road, but firstly, it probably saved me a fair bit of money and secondly, it actually gives the bracelet a really nice tarnished worn look that I happen to be very fond of, so it suits me just fine. The only thing that’s no so great about this is the that the safety chain is broken off, but I suppose easy come, easy go.
Have you ever found anything like this in such a glamorous place as the road side?
